The Alternate View

What a couple days it has been here at Roland Garros. Top seeds Li Na and Stan Wawrinka have already booked return flights home, but today you can also add the Williams sisters to that list. Having to wake up early is not tough when you live for upsets and underdog triumphs. I caught the third set of Venus Williams match against teenager Anna Shmieldova, and to be quite frank she looked razzed at the punch Shmiedlova thew at her. Venus one time clocked in at 119 mph on a serve of hers. Through all the hard hitting though, the teenager prevailed as Venus sprayed too many unforced errors in the match. Less than two hours later I nor has any one else seen Serena play as poor and ineffective as she did. She was extremely erratic and confused at times. Her body language was bleak and then loud, showing her inconsistency on the court and in her head. Taking nothing away from her opponent Murguruza, Serena should definitely be worried about heading into Wimbledon. Garbine Murguruza on the other hand played excellent and played a lot of long rallies that forced Serena to hit the net or hit too far for many unforced errors. I like Murguruza as she made amazing shots and served well throughout the match. I know many were hoping for a Williams third round what could have been quite exciting but nevertheless it was a good thing for tennis and the fans to see two young stars win today and both as extreme underdogs.
